We Are.. Santorini

Anna and I were lucky enough to spend some time in Santorini after we left Mykonos. Santorini is another island in the south of the Aegean Sea. Although relatively close in proximity to Mykonos it is an entirely different island is part due to the fact that it is the remnant of a volcanic caldera. The islands that remain of which Thira (Santorini) is one look somewhat like an atoll with a big lagoon and volcanic crater in the middle.

Some very good friends of ours Nick and Jill were on holiday in Austria and decided to make the trip with us so it was great to have them along. It was Jill’s birthday so we decided to make a day of it and spend it aboard a private catamaran. The catamaran had a crew of three and Theo was our captain. It was a fantastic way to see the islands, snorkel, cliff jump and eat our way through Santorini. The day ended up being amazing. Theo was a great captain. He had a lot of insight and said some things that really resonated with me. Theo said his father always told him there were three things never to turn his back on, the ocean, fire and a woman. Then in a discussion about work and play he said his father used to say that you work hard for half your life and sleep the other so you have to learn to enjoy the little bits of times you have in between. Theo’s dad was pretty smart I think.

I really cannot say enough about these islands and how much I love them. We honestly had the best time and it is an experience I will not soon forget. It is probably one of the most relaxing vacations I have ever taken. It was fun to get back to landscape photography, the area of photography that brought me into the wedding world in the first place. It is an amazing place for photos and I hope I have done it well.

We are.. Mykonos

As most of you know that follow the blog Anna and I were in Mykonos recently shooting the wedding of Alex and Elena. During that time Anna and I explored (along with everyone else) probably the entire island on ATV’s. It is an amazing island, a lot like Arizona but with fantastic beaches. A lot of the vegetation is even similar with cactus and agave plants. Probably known best for its white and blue houses and white windmills and crazy night life, it is amazing to me what about Mykonos’ charm DOESN’T get told. Little Venice with bars and cafes, beautiful sunsets, passionate Greek people and a slew of amazing landscapes awaited. The island begs you to relax and stay and have fun. We will be talking about this place for a long time.

This will be the first of several posts from our recent trip to the Greek islands of Mykonos and Santorini to photograph the wedding of Alex+Elena.

Cats and Mykonos seem to go hand and hand. Mykonos town is crawling with them and the cats themselves have seemed to adapt to the laid back atmosphere. It is impossible to describe just how many cats there were as every corner you turn they were there. The cats are part of the towns character and the locals there seem to adopt them as their own. Anna and I took an opportunity during a stroll through the town one morning to take a couple of pictures of some of our favorites.

We just can’t get enough of our new niece Lily. It has been such an awesome experience watching Brittany and Justin turn from a loving couple into a family of three. Little Lily changes so much every day that we try and make sure we see her as often as possible. It is truly one of the most amazing things in the world I believe someone can experience. Thank goodness we have our cameras to capture some of the moments and lock them into place.

A while back we had done some maternity photos for these two and then we got busy with wedding season and forgot to post them. The last couple of weeks we snapped about a million photos of Lily so we thought we would combine them into a giant post and put them here for you all to see

This past weekend our niece decided it was finally time to make her fashionably late debut into this world Lily Elisabet York was born on May 21st at 5:36 PM. She weighed 6 lbs 12 oz and was 20 1/2 inches long. She’s tiny, she’s beautiful, she’s absolutely perfect. Thank you to Brittany and Justin for allowing us to document this amazing event… you haven given us one hell of an addition to the family We are so proud to be her aunt and uncle!

2010 was an amazing year to say the least. When Anna and I set out to start this business we could never have known that it was going to blow up the way it did. It still blows my mind that I can have this much fun and work with my wife to create art with fun couples. We are so gracious for all support we have gotten and we are looking forward to 2011.

I just want to take the time to thank all our family and friends for the incredible support and encouragement you have given us in the last year. I also want to apologize for being too damn busy to really see any of you! Hopefully we’ll find a better balance in 2011 To all the bloggers out there, thank you, thank you, thank you for showing us the love… you’ve welcomed us to the world of weddings with open arms. This is a pretty big landmark. I dont like to shoot family or friends really because it is an odd dynamic, expecially when they are a photographer. I am barely comfortable in my own skin so you can imagine the fear that struck when my beautiful wife asked if I would take a few shots of her. I couldn’t have a better model as she regularly blows my mind with her beauty. Everything about her moves me to be better at everything I do. She is just as amazing inside as she is beautiful on the outside. I feel lucky to have her as a wife and best friend.
